Oriels Day Again

Oriel got the upper Hands to claim their fourth junior inter-zone crown in fine style, regaining the title with 6 rink wins yesterday in Ardboe. The strength in depth of the Oriel team was a joy to watch with several of the Squad already on the full mens team, the evidence is a few more will follow suit very soon. The oriel mens team is the youngest in the country and after the horror show of St Swithins maybe it’s time to lower the age further by throwing these very capable juniors in at the deep end. Western provided a stern test for Gerry’s young guns but Oriel had the greater quality in front ends and always looked capable of sliding up another gear if required.

Convenor Dilworth will be happy his juniors let their bowls do the talking to claim third place, while Western again making it to the latter stage will be content that the conveyer belt of emerging talent is still ticking along nicely.
