Things that make you go Hhmmm!

The January 31st deadline has passed, so any completed questionnaires are now being mulled over by the sub committee of forward thinkers within the IIBA. What will they uncover that will make us go Hhmmmm?

International Selections are sure to be featured with the popular idea of ranking events leading to guaranteed selection for the unheralded elite among us.

Perhaps a universally accepted alternative to the County Championships? Who knows, but good luck to Seamus Kyne and his fellow panel members in uncovering a few novel ideas which will promote our game still further. We hope to hear from you soon Seamus!

  1. Ranking tournaments in different parts of the country would be a great development. Maybe 5 or 6 singles tournaments with the best 3 scores counting, points being awarded for winning, runner up, semis and quarters. Top 4 getting on the Ireland team

  2. Feel free to email ideas that you would like featured on the blog to the blog above and i will feature them with the other ideas that i have received to date on all these topics.

  3. im sorry but being a good sinlges players doesn make you a great team player or a great skip so while these events are a good idea a selection committee of past players would be better
players like tommy johnston dessie hamilton and edwin irwin....guys who no what it takes and still play tournaments

  5. well lets get your opinions on the 'A' Series next year....who do you think should get a go?

  6. i love that saying "team player" Please define what a team player is in bowls. What more can you do than throw your to bowls and win your rink. If you start looking at different mats your only going to put yourself off. Just win your match thats the type of team player i want to play with

  7. Mark wilson, dayne jordan, stephen mcmahon, paddy hanlon, john murnaghan, barry kane, aaron tennant,pj gallagher, decky mc cann, andi duncan all young players who should be given a place on the a series team with a view to future full international recognition sooner rather than later!!!!

  8. Who's deckey mc cann?

  9. 11.28 totally disagree with alot of those names...alot more successful players out there who deserve their place on teams more than these lads. get under 25 development teams fir these lads but not A series places. alotmore successful players out there who deserve places on th A series than ALL of the above players.

give the junior winner a place on the a series but not selection of players simply because they are young

  10. Compleely disagree with the last comment. As there is no under 25 series the A series is the next best thing. Some of these players are skips for their zones and have reached finals of the champion of champions and regularly win 5 tournaments a year. The A series should be to see if your good enough for the the full team. A tryout as such. There is no point in giving players such as Marty Trainor Kevin Conroy Tyson etc a runnout as we all know they can play at the highest level.

  11. Many players only start playing bowls after they are 25, why should under 25s simply get picked because they are young. the A Series is meant to be a trial team not a youth team.

  12. maybe its time for an Under 25 Series, perhaps run on alternate years with the A Series. Everyone wins then.

  13. 10.21 so what gives these players the ight to a place on the A series team over older class player such as michael hand, aidan corrigan danny mc donald, sean conroy. dj and johnny wilson deserve a pop at these teams how many irish titles do they have and how many irish caps do they have??

i am a young player but being young does not give you a devine right to these teams you need to win something.

  14. Take dj and johnny out and I would say 1 title Aidan Corrigan. Im not saying the above dont deserve their place but there is 24 places on the team.

Im not saying they should be all on it but surely some deserve there place. PS Im not saying pick them because of their age Im saying pickthem becuse there good enough.

How dj and johnny have been overlooked for the Irish team is a pure injustice.

  15. Without question its a disgrace that these two are not on the team, what more do both have to do to prove their worth? Maybe a World title later in the year will seal the deal

  16. Right heres one then name the best players in the last say 10 years never to have won an Irish cap in that time. Obviously the 2 above are obvious but who else. Alan Johnson should definetly be include as should Gerry McCabe and Eddie Curran. Any other shouts. Im speaking about full international caps not "A"series.

  17. I think you have got some misinformation. Jonny did play on the full team a few years back. He didnt exactly mix with team and played average. DJ im not sure whether he recieved call up to senior before though he has definitely been on a series. Both outstanding players and would grace any international team but sometimes you only get one chance and have to grasp it. Jonny it would appear did not. Questionable attitude did not help.
I personally think those young players mentioned above do derserve a place to prepare them for the future, as they have all the talent and are the future of Irish bowls at international level.

  18. Ok Ill start with a few names. All of the above except Johnny who played in 05 and 06, Gordy Stubbs, Damien McElroy, Dermie McMahon.

  19. Adam Barr as well probably

    ReplyDelete
  20. Fra Dillon and Billy Taffe should be in there as well

  21. Gordy Stubbs has won so many titles its unreal to think hes not been picked. Is that right?

  22. Be careful about what you are writing on the blog, a comment is going to have to be pretty bad before i delete it but you can't talk openly about people ln that manner and expect it to stay on the blog. Im sure you would not want to come on and read the same about yourself

  23. Jonny Wilson on his day is one of the top three bowlers in the country and no one can dispute that based on the amount of titles won over the last six or seven years. His big brother isnt too bad either and it is a disgrace that both these guys arent on the team. Especially when you think of the number of guys that have won one title and then get catipulted onto the team, never mind those that have won none.

  24. Clearly playing out off the wrong zone

    ReplyDelete
  25. if you're face doesn't fit.... Not sure what these guys have done wrong as I have always found them fine to play against. The selectors need to wise up and reward these two for all of the titles they have won recently

  26. i think D McCann was on the A series team a couple of years ago i think he lead to G Conroy in the rinks.
