Rule Changes 2010/11

Tournament Rule Changes

From next season a number of changes will apply to all licenced tournaments.

All such tournaments organised by affiliated clubs or leagues must satisfy equality legislation and therefore must be open to all clubs and bowlers. Leagues organising such tournaments must make their entry open to all clubs not just those who participate in that particular league.

Organisers must complete all relevant parts of the new application form and these must be returned before any licence or licence number can be provided.

Minimum entry requirements will apply to all licenced tournaments organised by affiliated clubs or leagues.

  1. take it this the end of closed tournaments,it is 30 odd years late but at least its the end of sectarism in our sport.hopefully now shortmat bowls can move forward without this dark cloud hanging over us.Dont know how this new rule came about but looks as if the house of sport had to intervene here as the IIBA looked as if they were never going to have equality in our sport.Hope this rule sticks as there is no room for bigots in our sport or in any sport.

  2. sport is about companionship, friendship and extending the hands across divides.any rule that helps break down barriers and not build the barriers higher can only have a positive effect on the game.

    I totally agree with you.

  4. Does this also mean the end to zone championships that qualify winners for the champion of champions? Surely these comps also discriminate against players (just not on religious grounds)

  5. Up to now every bowler could have played in their own zone championships unlike the closed tournaments which excluded bowlers who were catholic. The new rule would appear to change both by illegalising closed tournaments and making zone championships open to all. "Up Yours" to the many now disgruntled bigots who play bowls and additional revenue to each zone organising a zone championship, the winners of which will still qualify for the Champion of Champions, though with a broader entry, there will be no easy ride through the so called weaker zones, as the winners will now have to beat the McHugh's & Co out there. Win / Win all round:-))

  7. Sure bring the closed events back.Anyone that make such a ludicrous statement is not a sportsman. They dont care about the future endorsement of our game.Back to the old attitude and bigotry. The IIBA are celebrating their 50th year soon and if they bring back closed events they sure as pussy was a kitten will never see their 100th Centenary year.

Let me enlighten you my dear comrade re 16:47,sport is about bringing all cultures, nationalities and people with diferent social and economic backgrounds together

Among the best traitors sport has ever had, biogtry ranks at the very top, a massive obstacle in the path to equality and freedom. It has been a force for conservatism... to ward off threats to its own security and influence.
